MAPIC 2011, the international real estate exhibition, was held in Cannes from 16th to 18th November. The exhibition brought together the world’s largest retailers, developers and consultants and revealed a growing interest from international players in the Ukrainian market.
This year at MAPIC, DTZ Ukraine presented the following projects: Odessa City Shopping Centre (Amstor), Forum Lvov Shopping Centre (Multi Development), Yuzhnaya Galereya Shopping Centre in Simferopol (Arricano Development) and first Ukrainian outlet – centre Kiev E 95 First Outlet Centre (Evo Land Development) as well as Ave Plaza Shopping Centre in Kharkov (Uniqa RE).
The exhibition showed that international retail operators, which are not yet active in the Ukrainian market, are still primarily interested in high-quality projects in Kiev. According to Natalia Mykolaychuk, Head of Retail department of DTZ in Ukraine, most operators are willing to consider entering the market with projects in cities with populations exceeding one million. Odessa remains the most attractive city after Kiev, following Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Lviv.
Yuzhnaya Galereya Shopping centre by Arricano Development, which is expected to open in Crimea in the autumn of 2012, received reasonably high interest from international retail operators. This interest is based on the developer’s successful experience, with a current portfolio that includes four operating shopping malls. Yuzhnaya Galereya will be the largest shopping centre in Crimea. Furthermore, this region lacks shopping malls with modern design, good location and a quality tenant mix and so the mall will be exclusive to Crimea. Yuzhnaya Galereya will become a project of regional importance, designed for a large numbers of tourist visitors, the local population as well as visitors from across the whole peninsula.
