4th Local Economic Development Forum in Georgia

16 April, 2010

Nataliya Mykolaychuk, head of retail department in DTZ Ukraine, participated in the 4th Local Economic Development Forum in Tbilisi (Georgia), which took place on 7-8 April 2010 in the Radisson Blu Iveria hotel.

Nataliya was moderator and speaker at the Forum’s “Tbilisi open for retail 24/7” section, which was attended by developers and investors of Georgia’s retail market. In her presentation “Factors for development of retail property market in Georgia”, Nataliya highlighted the problems which usually arise while developing shopping centres in Georgia, particularly the weak presence of retail chain on the market. Earlier, in 2009, DTZ Ukraine had been engaged in retail consultancy assignments in Tbilisi on behalf of the Tbilisi City Authorities. During the Forum, positive aspects of the retail market in Georgia were considered and existing possibilities for shopping centres developers and tenants were highlighted. A presentation on shopping centres showed that the Tbilisi retail market has started to develop rapidly.

The main goal of the Forum was to provide an effective platform for cross-border communication among the private, public and civil society sectors. The Forum was arranged and organised by Tbilisi Municipality, which was launched a year ago with the aim of city re-branding and to help attract more visitors and investors.

This year’s Forum was attended by around 70 specialists from public and private sectors from Georgia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Germany, Spain, Italy, Irland, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, France, Armenia, Czech, Sweden, Netherlands and Ukraine.
