Yahoo! Real Estate and Workplace for Yahoo! ISO at Barcelona, Spain
Overview
The aim of the Project was to create a work environment inspired by image concepts from Yahoo! at international level and to provide creative motivation for Yahoo´s! team and as a space adapted to fulfill their needs and the new ways of using the work environment.
What DTZ did
The offices are located in an exceptional building in one of the main commercial and business arteries of the city of Barcelona.
The design of the offices backed by the space light encourages the exploitation of natural light through the orientation of work spaces and the use of color.
Beyond the work areas themselves, the new environment provides flexible areas and spaces that add real value to the general environment such as; informal meeting rooms, quiet rooms, breakout spaces, touch-down areas and a centralized café and play area (with WII technology and football table). The main objective has been to create spaces that encourage communication and collaboration between work teams and create a relaxing atmosphere that motivates staff and encourages creativity.
Results
Increase of collaboration – by creating open plan work spaces without visual or physical barriers, by having walls to write on, pinnable cork areas, informal meeting areas next to work areas and by using technology allowing internet access wherever the user wishes to get connected.
Enabling concentration and privacy – by closed-up work spaces to develop activities demanding individual concentration or small private meetings.
Encourage corporate identity – by corporate messages, colours and general concepts of versatility and functionality found in any other Yahoo! office around the world.
Work where I want– work space versatility allows the user to be able to choose on a day-to-day basis where they would like to carry out their work according to the type of work. Areas available for this are for instance conference rooms, informal meeting areas, training room, coffee areas.
Improving remote collaboration and communication - technology tools now in place – video conference, lap top bars and flexible working, Rules of engagement/protocol for remote communication.
